It’s Time To Get Curious!
Curious George’s gameplay is fairly simplistic, but still manages to engage its target audience. The game kicks off with George being locked in an office by the Man in the Yellow Hat, in the hopes that he will manage to stay out of trouble. The gamer’s job however, is to make George do the exact opposite. You must interact with objects in order to gain curious points. These points will eventually unlock movie clips and artwork from the film. The bananas that are scattered throughout each level will help George to unlock mini games. Eventually you will find the way out, through an opening above the door, but this hardly means you’re in the clear. George has to sneak past the game’s villain, Junior, using a series of climbing and jumping moves. But be careful! If you are caught, Junior will lock you back in the office and you will have to start the level all over. As George progresses to different rooms and areas, he will be assigned tasks which he must complete in order to advance. The full range of his moves include being able to crawl, jump, double jump, swing, and climb. Hopefully by the release date his moves will be spiced up a bit, but even so, the mini games throw in just enough challenge to use the moves he is equipped with in a variety of innovative ways. For example, in one mini game George must weave his way through a crowd by jumping on peoples heads in a Frogger like fashion.
Graphically, Curious George is very appealing. The game successful mimics the books almost as closely as the movie does. The scenery is fun and colorful which only magnifies George’s hand drawn like appeal. Character movements appear to also be fluid and well animated. It looks as though the developer has spent a good amount of time studying the look of the film so as to deliver a game that does the series justice.
Like the graphics, the audio also appears to be strong. Featuring the music from the film, it sounds like hearted and upbeat. Sounds effects come off sharp and clear, though it is not known yet if they will become repetitive and grating. Fans of Curious George will be thrilled to find that he sports the same “voice” used in the film, though it is not known yet if the other characters will feature their celebrity provided voices.
It looks as though Curious George will make for a nice addition to any kids video game collection, or any Curious George fans for that matter. Get ready to watch as this curious little monkey comes to life on your screen and don’t forget to swing on over to Xbox Advanced for a full review!
